Two other victims — sisters Makayla, 12, and Canisha, 29 — were shot in their front yard next door to Jason Mesich's home.

Mildred Saulter, the mother of the sisters, told authorities that her family had been moving items into a U-Haul parked in front of their house when a man walked up to them and started shooting at them, the complaint states. She told investigators he injured the sisters and shot at and missed other family members. Saulter said the family put the sisters in a car and the U-Haul and drove to the hospital.

According to family members, Makayla was holding her baby niece when gunfire erupted Sunday night in Bloomington. Her aunt said Makayla protected the 1-year-old child during the incident.

As of Tuesday, Makayla remained in critical condition and has not regained consciousness, and Canisha is in serious condition.

"The lord will raise her up and she'll do a complete recovery — because she didn't deserve this, she hasn't even begun to live yet," said Rev. Marcia Westbrook, Makayla's aunt. "We got to take one day at a time — keep on praying like the Energizer bunny — just keep on praying."

Jason Mesich told officers he did not remember much of what happened but that he "probably" killed his wife. He said he and his wife would argue because he didn't think they had sex enough and that was the subject of their argument in the garage Sunday night.

The complaint states that Jason Mesich said he "probably" went inside to get a gun and that his wife was leaning on her car and tried to punch him; he then hit her in the collarbone area with both fists. Mesich said his wife "maybe" said something like "just shoot me then."

"I'm assuming that I did shoot her," Mesich told investigators, adding that he "probably emptied it," stating that if he wanted to kill someone, he would want to empty the magazine.

The complaint also states Mesich claimed the neighbors who were shot were not good neighbors and that the 12-year-old was shot because "maybe it was the opportunity." He later said that he hated all children.

Westbrook started a GoFundMe page to cover the medical expenses of those who were shot in her family due to the incident.

According to court records, bail for Mesich has been set at $1 million, and his first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
