U.S. Postal Service considering moving some mail operations from Grand Forks to Fargo - Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS – After review, the U.S. Postal Service has decided to keep the regional distribution facility on South 28th Avenue, but will consider moving some mail processing operations from Grand Forks to Fargo. USPS will hold a public meeting Dec. 6 for input from the community.

If processing operations are moved, the regional distribution facility could change, meaning mail will still be processed in Grand Forks, but the facility would be repositioned as a local processing center. According to USPS, there will be no employee layoffs, and the initiative is intended to have few effects on customer service — but Grand Forks City Administrator Todd Feland said the city doesn’t want to see the post office lose any of its processing operations.

“We don’t want to lose any of our regional capacity, as it can reduce service capacity and promptness for our region and our city,” he said.

The public is able to make written comments until Dec. 21. The Dec. 6 meeting will begin at noon at the Alerus Center.

The review is part of the USPS 10-year Delivering for America plan implementation, which aims to modernize the nationwide network and allow the organization to operate more efficiently by updating equipment, workplaces and processes across the country. According to USPS, there will be no career employee layoffs as part of this initiative and is intended to have few effects on customer service.
