FINAL CEREMONY AT SYRACUSE’S COLUMBUS STATUE? What could be the last annual wreath laying ceremony at the statue of Christopher Columbus in downtown Syracuse took place on Monday. Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced last week he plans to remove the statue and rename Columbus Circle. The statue will go to a private site that has not yet been determined. The decision sparked anger and sadness among the Italian-American community. “I think this has caused a rift in our community that may take decades to do away with,” said Assemblyman William Magnarelli, D-Syracuse.(Dennis Nett photo)
