Preview: Nashville Predators vs. Detroit Red Wings 3/23/21: Some Sort of Streak - On The Forecheck

The Preds emerged from their road trip with shootout wins against Dallas on either end of a relatively “meh...ok?” trip.

Eeli Tolvanen has placed himself in a position to succeed. When paired with Filip Forsberg and Ryan Johansen, Tolvanen has been excellent. Further, Juuse Saros has been excellent in two starts since returning from a suspected concussion.

The Preds have a large amount of players in some form of injury status. Matt Duchene, Ryan Ellis, Mark Borowiecki, Roman Josi, and Luca Sbisa are still recovering from various issues.

Finally, I’m hoping the Predators can get their act together on home ice. They seem to play very well on the road, but Bridgestone Arena can be either the scene of a murder or a victorious party.

The Wings remain...bad. The Predators absolutely need two points from the Red Wings tonight, but we all know that nothing is guaranteed in this weird season.

Filip Hronek leads the team in scoring with 18 points (1 goal, 17 assists). Captain Dylan Larkin has 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists).

Edited: Jonathan Bernier was injured last week against the Stars so it’ll be Thomas Greiss in net backed up by Calvin Pickard for Detroit tonight. Our friend J.J. at Winging it in Motown gave me an update. Thanks, J.J! Be sure to check out Winging it in Motown for Detroit updates, information, and enemy intel.

Reasons to Watch

-Eeli Tolvanen=ALWAYS a reason to watch. He is a joy.

-As I said in the last game preview against Dallas, I love seeing Mattias Ekholm and Alexandre Carrier. They’re an excellent defensive pair. Carrier is eating minutes and proving his NHL worth after toiling in the AHL for the better part of 4 seasons.

-It’s pretty obvious this season is “The Calle Jarnkrok Show.” It’s even better that Jarnkrok was acquired from the Detroit organization in 2014 as part of the David Legwand deal.
