SPRINGFIELD -- Three people were wounded in a shooting in the Forest Park neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

All three are being treated at local hospitals for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, said Ryan Walsh, police spokesman.

Police responded to an activation of the audio ShotSpotter system at about 4:25 p.m. near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Waldon Street and found the three victims, he said.

Walsh did not say if the three knew each other or were bystanders in the crime.

Police closed parts of the two streets. At least 10 markers showing shell casings and other evidence were seen placed on the street by investigators.

The Police Department’s detective bureau is investigating the crime, Walsh said.

The shooting comes five days after 22-year-old William Parker was killed at about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of College and Shattuck Streets. He was found suffering serious gunshot wounds and was rushed to Baystate Medical Center but died from his injuries.

The death is the city’s second homicide of the year. Police are asking anyone with information about the triple shooting or Tuesday’s homicide to contact the Detective Bureau at 413-787-6355. People who wish to remain anonymous may also send information by Text-a-Tip by sending a text to CRIMES (274637), typing the word SOLVE and then the information.
