Warriors' Steph Curry played like 'trash' despite triple-double in win - NBC Sports Bay Area

It was not a sharp night for Steph Curry, but he still managed to accomplish something he had only done seven previous times in his career.

The Warriors' superstar recorded just his eighth career regular-season triple-double in Tuesday's opening night win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

"This is a good feeling," Curry told TNT's Allie LaForce after the 121-114 win. "We had a lot of excitement coming into the season. A new cast of characters mixed with our core, and we weathered the storm tonight. Obviously, I played like trash, shot the ball terribly, but if we can win a game like that where we create some good shots and just stuck with it defensively against a pretty good team and get a win like that, it's a good omen for us."

Curry's triple-double came on an off night, where he shot 5-of-21 from the field (23 percent) and committed four early turnovers. He led the team in scoring, but only by one point over third-year guard Jordan Poole (20 points).

Steph's triple-double Tuesday night was his first in nearly five years, not counting the one he had against the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 of the 2019 Western Conference Finals.

If Curry can record triple-doubles on an off night, while the Warriors' bench helps lead the way to a win over a loaded Lakers roster, then that could only mean good things for Golden State this season.
