Grading the Jets’ 24-17 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Offense
The Jets moved the ball, but failed to cash in with points too often. They went 1-for-4 in the red zone and had four trips into Dolphins territory that resulted in zero points. QB Joe Flacco (24 of 39, 291 yards, 2 TDs, 101.5 rating) played decently but did not hit enough big plays to lift the Jets to a win. The running game died after RB Michael Carter (9 rushes, 63 yards) exited the game with an ankle injury. Rookie WR Elijah Moore (8 catches, 141 yards, 1 TD) showed what he is capable of.
Grade: C
Defense
There was progress. The Dolphins did not blow the Jets’ doors off. But there are still plenty of issues. John Franklin-Myers and Jason Pinnock both committed killer penalties on third down. The defensive line pressured QB Tua Tagovailoa (27 of 33, 273 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 108.7 rating), but did not sack him once. There was a complete coverage breakdown on the 65-yard touchdown to Mack Hollins that left him wide open.

Special Teams
Kicker Matt Ammendola missed two field goals, one from 40 yards that the Jets absolutely needed. The Jets had another two special teams penalties and did not have much of an impact in the return game.
Grade: F
Coaching
Give Robert Saleh some credit for stopping the bleeding. The Jets did not get blown out like the past two weeks. But this team still makes way too many mistakes. The coaching staff made a few of its own. The Jets had to burn two timeouts in the third quarter after having substitution issues. Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich made some personnel changes on defense with mixed results. On offense, Mike LaFleur dialed up some nice plays but their drives stalled too often.
