Mike Meadows finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to record the first triple-double in program history for Portland Pilots men’s basketball on Thursday night.
Seven other Pilots players also scored in double figures as the Pilots cruised to a 122-78 win over Division III Willamette in front of 1,056 at the Chiles Center.
Portland set a program record for points, breaking the Pilots’ previous high of 115 set against St. Martin in 1978.
There were double-doubles as well. Moses Wood had 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Chika Nduka added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Cedric Coward led the Bearcats (0-1) with 24 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.
After leading 57-48 at halftime, the Pilots (1-1) opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take control. Portland punctuated the victory by closing the game on a 22-1 run and outscored Willamette 65-30 in the second half.
The Pilots shot 59.4% overall and connected on 11 of 20 three-pointers (55%).
Next up: Portland plays host to Alcorn State at 5 p.m. Saturday. Willamette vs. Portland Bible, 8 p.m. Friday.
