Billie Eilish (USA, b. 18 December 2001) has completed the "triple crown" of film music awards aged just 20 years 99 days.
The film music awards "triple crown" is winning an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy for music created specifically for a film.
Eilish has achieved these accolades with "No Time to Die", created for the latest James Bond blockbuster of the same name starring Daniel Craig, Rami Malek and Léa Seydoux.
At the 94th Academy Awards on 27 March 2022, Eilish won Best Original Song, after already winning Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 63rd Grammy Awards (14 March 2021) and Best Original Song at the 79th Golden Globe Awards (9 January 2022) – all for "No Time to Die".
Eilish co-wrote the song with her brother Finneas O’Connell, with orchestral arrangements provided by Hans Zimmer. Zimmer also won a 2022 Oscar for Best Original Score for the sci-fi film Dune (USA, 2021). O’Connell co-produced the track with Stephen Lipson.
The achievement was made even more special as Eilish and O’Connell performed the number together at the Oscars, staged at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, USA.
"No Time to Die" peaked at its debut position of No.16 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 29 February 2020.
Eilish is also the youngest musician to write and record a James Bond theme song, penning and recording the track when she was just 18 years old.
Although Eilish is the youngest person to win the film music awards "triple crown", she is not the first musician to achieve the "triple crown" off the back of an iconic Bond theme.
Adele (UK, b. 5 May 1988), achieved the three coveted awards for "Skyfall", the theme for James Bond movie Skyfall, at the Grammys on 26 January 2014, aged 25 years 266 days.
Other previous triple crown winners include;
- Ryan Bingham (USA, b. 31 March 1981) - for "The Weary Kind" (with T Bone Burnett)
- Justin Hurwitz (USA, b. 22 January 1985) -in relation to La La Land (USA, 2016)
- Hildur Guðnadóttir (Iceland, b. 4 September 1982) - in relation to Joker (USA, 2019)
John Legend (USA, b. 28 December 1978; 37 years 49 days) and Hans Zimmer (Germany, b. 12 September 1957; 37 years 196 days) also won film music's "triple crown" before their 40th birthdays.
Eilish holds a multitude of other records, including youngest Record of the Year winner at the Grammy Awards (aged 18 years 39 days old with "Bad Guy") and youngest solo artist to win Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards (aged 18 years 1 month 8 days old with debut album When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go).
With time on the side of this record-breaking musician, we can't wait to see what record she will break next.
