AUSTIN, Texas – Florida's relay teams took center stage on Friday morning as the men's and women's 4x100 squads made their season debut at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The Florida women ran 44.10 behind the team of Talitha Diggs, Semira Killebrew, Alexis Brown and Grace Stark to qualify automatically for tomorrow night's final. Diggs is also set to run the 4x400 relay tomorrow evening.
Florida got a big-time performance from the team of Dedrick Vanover, Tyler Davis, PJ Austin and Joseph Fahnbulleh to open up the season with a NCAA and world-leading time of 38.58.
Their mark in the event was also the 10th-fastest time in school history.
Austin went on to qualify into the finals of the 100 meters after running a personal best of 10.17 (1.1). He is set to run in the finals of both events tomorrow afternoon.
Caleb Foster made his collegiate debut in the 110-hurdles, clocking 14.37 (-0.4) in the preliminary round.
In the first outdoor meet of the season, Edward Shelikoff opened up his 2022 campaign with a huge personal best in the discus throw. His first attempt of 56.98m/186-11 bested his previous top mark by over a meter and put him No. 10 on Florida's All-Time Top 10 list.
Natricia Hooper continued her outstanding form in the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.91m/47-7.75 on her final attempt of the afternoon.
The 2022 NCAA and SEC Indoor Runner-Up in the Triple Jump now has the NCAA lead in the event and has the third-best mark in the world in the outdoor season.
Vanessa Watson came back in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles and lowered her season best to 57.38, the seventh-fastest mark in school history.
Jonathan Miller opened up his outdoor account with a jump of 15.57m/51-1 to finish eighth in Section A of the Triple Jump at the Texas Relays.
Florida returns to the track to complete the Texas Relays tomorrow. Florida will run the finals of the 4x100 and 4x400 relays as well as a men's 4x200 relay.
Claire Bryant (Long Jump), Jasmine Moore (Long Jump), Thea Jensen (Shot Put), Austin (100m), Foster (Long Jump) and Malcolm Clemons (Long Jump) will all compete in individual events as well.
