Some snow today, temperatures then plunging - KBJR 6

TODAY/TONIGHT: Today we will be tracking a cold front that will pass through the region. Snow will move in from north to south this morning, although models are backing off on totals a little bit now. Looks like the best chance for snow in the Ports will be between 7am-10am, then a 50% chance between 10am-2pm. Accumulations will be between 1-2” for most of the region today with some areas seeing less than an inch even. Temperatures will be in the 20’s this morning, but breezy winds out of the north will bring colder air in this afternoon. It will likely be in the single digits as folks are coming home.

Tonight is going to be frigid! Lows will drop into the teens and 20’s below zero. Wind chills will be between -30° and -50°! Frost bite can occur within minutes at these temperatures. The South Shore will continue to see lake effect snow with winds NNW 10-15mph. New accumulations will be between 2-6”.

THURSDAY: Wednesday we will see sunny skies as high pressure sits over the region. Winds will be out of the northwest 5-10mph, so there will still be some lake effect snow for the South Shore.  Highs will struggle to make it above zero.

FRIDAY: On Friday we will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. A ridge of warm air will start to move in, bringing highs into the lower teens. Winds will be breezy out of the SSW 10-20mph.

WEEKEND: This weekend is looking pretty quiet. There is a 30% chance of some scattered light snow showers on Saturday, especially in northern Minnesota. Highs will be in the upper 20’s with westerly winds. Sunday we will see partly cloudy skies and temperatures falling as colder air moves in.
