Dane County hit another triple digit increase in coronavirus cases for third straight day, with 110 new cases reported Saturday morning. Today’s increase brings the county’s total COVID cases to 2,302 with over 40% of all cases in their 20s. Dane County is still at 32 deaths, which has been consistent since June 17th.
Today’s new cases continue the trend of most new cases being discovered in younger people with over half – 63 of the new cases – aged in their 20s. The group between 20-29 is now 42.35 percent of all cases in Dane County. Of the the rest, one is under the age of 10, five are aged 10-19, and 16 are in their 30s. There were also 10 new cases in their 40s, four in their 50s, eight in their 60s and three new cases in their 80s.
There were five new hospitalizations today with two people in their thirties, and one each in their 40s, 60s and 70s. As of this morning, only 222 cases have ever been hospitalized in Dane County since the pandemic began.
The percentage of active cases decreased slightly today with recovered cases now at 53.78 percent and active cases at 46.22 percent – a decrease from yesterday’s 47.54 percent We now have 1,238 recovered cases and 1,064 active cases.
The percentage of tests returning positive results has seen a marked increase recently. Public Health Madison Dane County reports 1,775 tests and 42 new cases on June 20 – a 2.4 percent positive rate. One week later, on June 27, 2,515 tests were processed, with 110 coming back positive, for a rate of 4.4 percent. On June 30 — the date for which more recent data is available — 1,872 tests were processed with 143 positive results — a 7.6 percent rate.
Yesterday, Madison365 updated our data regarding coronavirus spread in specific neighborhoods and communities from June 19th through July 2nd. Today’s data are not included, but will be included in an update next week.
Public Health of Madison and Dane County in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and Madison365 announced that they are coordinating six pop-up testing sites around the Madison area starting next Tuesday, July 7. Renewed restrictions on businesses and gatherings in Dane County also went effect Thursday morning. Public Health of Madison and Dane County updated their current order with additional restrictions that included limiting outdoor gatherings to 25 or fewer and indoor gatherings to 10 or fewer, as well as limiting indoor dining capacity to 25% for restaurants – as defined by the order – and allowing bars – as defined by the order – to provide take-out (no indoor dining). Bars and restaurants can still have outdoor seating as long as it followed social distancing. The Tavern League of Wisconsin called the new order “unlawful.”
“Dane County tavern owners have had their businesses closed/restricted for over 100 days. These unlawful orders are causing irreparable financial harm to their small businesses, families and employees while other businesses continue to operate in the county,” Tavern League of Wisconsin president Chris Marsicano wrote in a statement.
Public Health of Madison and Dane County reports long waits for testing at Alliant Energy Center once again. Public Health officials are encouraging to seek testing with their primary care providers if they are able to rather than wait in the long lines.
