Questions remain after triple murder in NE Portland - OregonLive

Several days after three people were found fatally shot in a Portland home and two days after a man was arrested in their killings, there are still more questions than answers about what led to the deaths in the Parkrose Heights neighborhood.

Police were called to a home in the 2500 block of Northeast 122nd Avenue around 10 p.m. Friday after someone reported a disturbance. Officers discovered the bodies of 45-year-old Elmer Edwin Hughes, 40-year-old Tashia Cobb and 77-year-old Lawrence Murphy.

On Monday, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office said Brett Pruett had been arrested over the weekend and charged with first-degree murder. He also has been charged with an assault on a woman identified as his fiancee on a social media account that appeared to be Pruett’s.

By Tuesday, the house where court records show Pruett lived on Northeast 122nd was boarded up with discarded tires leaning against the garage and a derelict school bus parked in the driveway.

Boards also covered the windows of the house to the north, where online records indicate Murphy lived, and several candles flickered in front of a makeshift memorial on the front stoop of the home. Roses, a motorcycle seat and handlebars were arranged on the grass around pictures of the three victims.

Police did not say in which house they found the bodies.

Several neighbors, none of whom would give their names, said the people who frequented the two houses appeared to be transients coming and going at all hours of the day.

The owners of the property could not be reached for comment and police did not respond to questions from The Oregonian/OregonLive about what led to the deaths of Hughes, Cobb and Murphy.

Brent Weisberg, a spokesman for the District Attorney, said that court documents relating to the case had been sealed and there was no timeline for when they might become public.
