It’s going to be sunny and hot on Saturday — and sunnier and hotter on Sunday — with parts of the Bay Area in triple digits and scant relief until early next week, the National Weather Service reported.
Much of the East Bay will be in the high 90s, and Antioch and Lake Berryessa are expected to hit the low 100s.
“As soon as you get away from the water and the coast, it’s going to get pretty toasty,” said meteorologist Matt Mehle.
Temperatures in San Francisco will be in the high 60s but a few miles inland the thermometer could shoot up 30 degrees or more.
Livermore is expected to reach 97 and Concord will reach 98. San Jose will hit 88. Sacramento will soar to 104. Those numbers could be higher on Sunday.
A high pressure area parked over the desert southwest was keeping the thermometer elevated in the Bay Area. By Monday, westerly winds will start to break that up, Mehle said.
“It should be 5 degrees cooler most places on Monday, and cooler still later on,” he said.
San Francisco and other coastal areas should stay cooler over the weekend because of “really cold ocean temperatures” in the 40s and 50s.
“It’s our natural air conditioner,” Mehle said.
Low humidity in the afternoon will keep create “elevated fire weather concerns,” according to the weather service forecast.
A heat advisory was in effect for much of the Central Valley, where temperatures in the mid 100s were expected. A small craft advisory was in effect for the Northern California coast, where winds of 25 miles an hour and 6-to-8-foot seas were predicted.
