This week’s forecast will be pretty straightforward for North Texas — hot, hot and more heat.
Dallas-Fort Worth is set to face highs in the upper 90s all week and into the weekend, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Grant Johnston. By Thursday or Friday, highs in North Texas could even rise into the triple digits, he said.
“[It’s] typical August heat,” Johnston said. “We’re not talking about any heat records coming our way.”
The heat returns this week and this coming weekend. Heat Indices will be in the mid to high 90s and even approach 100. Mid-August will be unseasonably warm - so don't forget to practice heat safety! North Texas has gotten lucky so far this year in terms of triple digit heat. So far this summer, there have only been two days when the mercury jumped into the 100s at DFW International Airport.
Normally by now Dallas-Fort Worth would have had at least a week’s worth of 100-degree days, according to the National Weather Service.
The majority of North Texas’ triple-digit days come in August. On average Dallas-Fort Worth records at least nine day with highs in the 100s in August. By the end of summer, North Texas typically sees 18 days with triple-digit heat.
Even if Dallas-Fort Worth doesn’t record any 100-degree days this week, humid conditions will make it feel like temperatures are well into the 100s. Heat index values throughout the week could reach 105 degrees, according to Johnston.
With dry conditions expected through next week, there will be little relief from the heat this week.
“As far as any significant rain chances, they’re just not showing up anytime soon,” Johnston said.
With an average of just under 2 inches of rain, August is typically the driest month of the year for Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the weather service.
