Following a week of adverse weather forecasts, Houston has once again issued a heat advisory that will likely extend through the weekend.
Houstonians can expect temperatures to edge toward triple-digits Friday, with the actual feel somewhere between 105 and 110 degrees by early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. By the start of next week, tropical moisture should bring some rain and cooler weather pockets to the area.
Areas east of Interstate 45 can expect scattered thunderstorms and scattered showers Friday morning, but temperatures will remain high.
'WORSE THAN RITA': Scars of Hurricane Laura evident as Louisiana residents assess storm damage
Despite Hurricane Laura, state and local officials are keeping an eye out for wildfires.
Texas A&M Forest Service has reminded people that with temperatures soaring through the weekend, there will be an increased rate of drying in vegetation and, as a result, an increased liklihood of forest fires in the area. They urged people along and west of the Interstate 35 corridor to remain vigilant while the threat remains.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office also issued a countywide burn ban Tuesday ahead of Laura’s arrival, which prohibited all outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of the county for 30 days.
Since January, state and local resources have responded to 3,913 fires that have affected 194,969 acres, the Forest Service said.
Officials remind people to practice safe heat habits — limiting time outdoors, staying hydrated and not leaving children and pets unattended in vehicles.
