The New York Yankees topped the Chicago White Sox on Friday 2-1, using a triple play to get out of a ninth-inning jam and a walk-off single from Gleyber Torres to seal the game.

Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman walked the first batter in the ninth and a Chapman error moved the White Sox into scoring position with two on and no outs. But Andrew Vaughn hit the ball towards third base and into a triple play to end the inning.

“It’s so exciting," Chapman said. "It’s one of those plays you don’t see every day — a triple play. To add to that, where I was … I have runners on first and second, nobody out, then the play develops. It’s amazing, exciting.”

Aaron Judge and Gio Urshela both singled to get Judge into scoring position with Torres up to bat. Torres, who put the Yankees on the board with a home run in the seventh, notched his second hit of the night to win the game.

The White Sox and Yankees' starting pitchers both struck out a combined 24 players — Carlos Rodon had 13 and Jordan Montgomery had 11. It was the first time in modern MLB history that the starting pitchers each struck out 10 while and allowing no runs and no walks.
