Firefighters are responding to a 7-alarm blaze in Dorchester that broke out among multiple triple-decker homes on Fayston Street.
Photos from the scene show heavy fire from the buildings and Boston fire apparatus in place fighting the blaze.
“We have multiple 3 family houses on fire on Fayston St in Dorchester,” the department said in a tweet. “Heavy fire in the rear of the buildings a 5th alarm has been ordered.”
Since that tweet, the department struck a 6th and 7th alarm, calling in more firefighters.
All of the building burning are three-story multi family homes. Boston Fire reports that porches on the buildings involved have collapsed and that firefighters were working to contain the blaze.
One house at the scene is very badly burned with at least two others that the fire spread to.
On resident said he heard somebody yelling ‘fire, fire, fire,’ and he looked out the back and saw flames climbing the side of the building. At that point he ran out, the man, who did not want to share his name, told the Herald.
The Salvation Army reports that it is on the way to the scene to provide support for displaced residents.
