Dallas-Fort Worth finally hit 100 degrees for the first time this year, but there are plenty more hot days ahead.

The triple digits were recorded just after 3 p.m. Sunday at DFW International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday’s temperature ended a weeks-long reprieve, as July 1 is the average for hitting the century mark in North Texas, records show.

In anticipation of the sweltering conditions, the Weather Service issued a heat advisory Saturday for most of North Texas that went into effect noon Sunday and will expire at 7 p.m.

By noon Sunday, heat index values neared 100 degrees and were expected to climb as high as 108 in parts of North and northeast Texas.

More hot weather is expected, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5). North Texas is expected to reach highs of 100 degrees or above most days through Aug. 3.

D-FW averages about 20 days a year with temperatures of 100 or higher, the Weather Service said. August typically has the most triple-digit days, followed by July.

Dry weather is expected through this week, with the exception of a chance of scattered showers Wednesday south and east of Dallas-Fort Worth, NBC5 reported. There is also a chance that a few showers may pop up by Wednesday south and east of the area.

As temperatures rise, people should be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Heat exhaustion can cause confusion, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, headaches, muscle and abdominal cramps, pale skin, sweating, a rapid heartbeat and nausea.

Heatstroke symptoms include headaches; dizziness; lack of sweating; red, hot and dry skin; muscle weakness or cramps; nausea and vomiting; an elevated heart rate; rapid breathing; confusion and disorientation.

People should drink plenty of fluids and wear loose-fitting clothing, the Weather Service said, and children and pets should never be left unattended inside cars.
