More hot, dry weather is in the forecast for this week, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Sunday afternoon.

“When it’s hot and dry, there’s always fire danger,” forecaster Matthew Kidwell said. “There are no particular windy and dry conditions coming up.”

Kidwell also urged safety around fireworks on July 4 because of the extreme drought the state is in.

“The main thing is to remind people to be safe with fireworks, especially in the interior areas,” he stressed.

The coastal areas of Humboldt County will remain cooler and interior areas will see temperatures in the three-digit range late in the week.

Eureka will see patchy fog and clouds for the first half of the week. Temperatures will range between lows in the mid-50s and highs in the mid-60s.

“Wednesday might be the day we have some clearing at the coast,” Kidwell said.

Arcata might see temperatures closer to 70 degrees but will see similarly foggy and cloudy days.

Willow Creek is expected to hit triple-digit heat on Monday, but temperatures will dip into the 90s most of the week before starting to head back up by next weekend.

To the south, Garberville will see temperatures ranging from the mid-60s overnight to the mid-80s during the day.

There was a small craft advisory in effect Sunday and extends through noon Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicted “northwest winds 15 to 25 knots with gusts to 30 knots and seas
6 to 9 feet.”
