ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — This holiday season there is a huge need for people looking for assistance during the pandemic.
What You Need To Know
- Catholic Charities of Central Florida has been holding giveaways for familes during the holidays
- The organization says distribution has tripled to about 1,500 people weekly
- Food distribution has been provided by Second Harvest Food Bank
Wednesday Catholic Charities of Central Florida had a food giveaway handing out chicken, canned goods, and toys to families.
One of families is the Riveras.
“It’s been very difficult,” said Javier Rivera.
He has a wife and a 4 year old.
“They are everything, my life revolves around my family, its god my family,” Rivera said.
During the pandemic things haven't been easy.
“I have out of work since March 21st,” he said.
He worked for Hilton Hotels doing housekeeping, but for now he's surviving on employment and doing what he can to provide for his family, including coming to these giveaways.
“It’s been a blessing because it been hard for our family to get some food,” Rivera said.
Catholic Charities of Central Florida said its distribution has nearly tripled providing food for around 1,500 people weekly, with food donated by Second Harvest Food Bank.
“There is absolute need and we are glad to serve folks.” Said Catholic Charities of Central Florida President Gary Tester.
They have food giveaways every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
