Westbrook becomes 4th with two triple-doubles to begin season originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
For a guy who holds the NBA record for most consecutive triple-doubles (11), what’s two in two games?
After picking up No. 147 against the Magic on Saturday, Russell Westbrook added his name to a short and notable list of hall of famers who have registered consecutive triple-doubles in the first 2 games of the season.
Those names read: Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, and Magic Johnson (2x). Not bad company to be around.

Westbrook surpassed Johnson’s 138 career triple-doubles last season. And at 32 years old, he could very well pass Oscar Robertson’s 181 to become the league’s all-time leader in triple-doubles before it’s all said and done.
Westbrook put up 36 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists in his Wizards debut against the 76ers on Wednesday. His 15 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists in the follow-up weren’t enough to help the Wizards to their first win of the regular season.
The Wizards were beaten by the Magic 130-120 on Saturday, but they get another crack at them on Sunday in the condensed season’s first back-to-back. A third consecutive triple-double in the first three games of the season would put Westbrook in the company of only Robertson, who had four straight in 1961.
Westbrook will likely be more focused on helping his new team improve to 1-2, but you have to imagine he's saying to himself, ‘Why Not?’
Pregame coverage of Wizards vs. Magic begins Sunday at 6 ET on NBC Sports Washington.
