Cubs, Iowa Cubs to officially be partners for years to come originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Cubs and the Iowa Cubs have been partners since 1981. That relationship officially won't be ending anytime soon.
Iowa has signed its Professional Baseball License to remain the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate for 10 more years, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reported Thursday.

The news is a mere formality, as the Cubs extended Iowa an invitation to remain their Triple-A affiliate (as part of MLB's new player development structure) last month. They also extended invitations to the Tennessee Smokies (Double-A), South Bend Cubs (High-A) and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Low-A).
“We’re really satisfied with all the affiliates we’ve had for a number of years now,” said Cubs VP of player development Matt Dorey last month on the Cubs Talk Podcast. “They do a great job for our players, and we expect that to continue moving forward.”
The minor leagues are now under MLB's direction following the expiration of the MLB-MiLB Professional Baseball Agreement. As part of that reorganization, MLB contracted from 160 to 120 minor league teams. Each big league team has four affiliates.
The Giants invited the Eugene Emeralds, formerly the Cubs' low-A affiliate, to become their High-A affiliate.
