HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Our forecast continues its colder than average trend for the foreseeable future and we may add in some more snow chances later this week.
Today and Tonight
It will be a cold morning across the region and temperatures will not get much better today under mainly cloudy skies. I still have some hope that we might see a few peeks of sunshine at times later in the day, so keep your fingers crossed. Highs will likely stay below 40, so keep the jacket handy all day. A few flurries will fly early in some areas in the eastern counties and some of the higher elevations might have a slick spot or two.
Tonight, look for partly to mostly cloudy skies as lows drop into the upper 20s.
Extended Forecast
Thursday looks ok during the day. We might even get to 40 for a high under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Thursday evening and overnight, things could get interesting. Models are split on how things will play out, but I think we see some scattered showers turn into snow showers overnight.
Some of the highest elevations and areas near the Kentucky/Virginia/Tennessee border could see some light accumulations by Friday morning. It all depends on how far north the low comes. Lows will be right around freezing on Friday morning and won’t move a lot under mostly cloudy skies during the day. Snow chances continue, especially early, on Friday. We’ll drop into the upper 20s as skies clear out Friday night.
The weekend looks decent right now. We should see a mix of sun and clouds or maybe even mostly sunny skies both days. Highs will be in the upper 30s and low 40s with lows in the low to mid-20s under mainly clear skies.
