Bushara Skips into Exclusive Triple Jump Club on Birthday - CSURams.com

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Right above the jump pit was a rail of Rams clapping in unison for Allam Bushara who was celebrating his 20th Birthday in style by notching the second-best indoor triple jump in Colorado State history Friday at the Wyoming Power Meet.

It wasn't the only highlight of the day in Laramie, but it was the loudest and most special considering the support from the rail and that it was in the twilight hour of the day. A day that the Rams tallied 11 new top-20 marks in the CSU history book for indoor competition in addition to seven other personal records and countless event debuts from new Rams.

Bushara, a freshman from Fort Collins, jumped 50'10.75'' to capture first place in the triple jump, winning by a margin of almost two feet. The mark is 3.5 inces off the record holder Jacob Benson and he slides ahead of Greg Johnson, Preston Williams – currently running routes for the Miami Dolphins – and teammate Isa Bynum who joined the exclusive over 50-feet club last indoor season.

In the 55-meter hurdles, Kamal-Craig Golaube and Liam Mather finished 1-2 with the former notching a time of 7.46 for eighth in school history. Mather bested the field in prelims with a 7.43 – good for fifth all-time. The results for Mather make back-to-back meets of adding his name in the record books.

Freshman pole vaulter Eldridge Harris, of Roswell, Ga., finished second with a height of 16'3.25 – an improvement of 8.25 inches from his last PR and fitting into 11th on CSU's all-time list.

On the women's side, four top-20 finishes in the 55m highlighted the day. What felt like a race of Rams with 10 in the prelims ended with CSU taking the top four spots in the finals starting with Lauren Gale, Janyah Jasper, Jasmine Chesson and Yolonda Johnson. All four are inserted into the record book with Gale leading the pack in fourth all-time with a time of 6.94.

The weight throw featured a friendly roommate battle of Tarynn Sieg and Ashton Hallsted. Two weeks ago at the Air Force Invite, Hallsted moved ahead of Sieg on CSU's list. There may have been some trash talk because Sieg responded by tying the 66'1.5'' mark for a deadlock in fifth all-time.

The last two top-20 performances came from Jordan Lanning in the high jump and 55m hurdles. In the latter she crossed at 8.40 for the 11th-best time for all green and gold wearers.

Coaches' Corner
Head Coach Brian Bedard
"We had bright spots in every event period really. The student-athletes were really excited to compete and they supported each other really well, which we love to see as coaches. The Birthday Boy [Allam Bushara] obviously was the highlight. He had a big day today, so it was fun to see the whole team cheering for him. They sang him Happy Birthday on the bus, I think he was snoozing, so it woke him up. Eldridge [Harris] over in the vaults is fun to watch and is an exciting young talent. Great all around as I could go on and on."

"The environment was intimate. I was worried it would be a little flat, but it was anything but as there was music going and excitement from all three teams. It was noisy and teams supporting each other and their competitors. I appreciate Wyoming in hosting this event and their efforts of making it run smoothly."

Assistant Coach J.J. Riese
"I am very pleased with the focus of the team. We had some nice PRs and a lot of people right at PR level. The team supported each other very well. Although we don't have a Mountain West championship to work towards it was a great step in getting prepared for the Championships at the Peak."
