FLINT – Keyon Menifield had a triple-double Saturday as Beecher’s boys basketball team bounced back from its season-opening loss to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s by beating Ferndale 73-67 in double overtime.

Menifield had 18 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds an five steals.

Robert Lee led Beecher in scoring with 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Carmelo Harris added 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Ferndale is 1-1.

Almont 95, Brandon 76

Almont remained unbeaten in three games. Brandon was playing its season opener.

Bridgeport 46, Hamady 40

Hamady fell to 0-3. The Hawks’ losses have been by a total of 10 points. Bridgeport is 1-1.

Davison 63, Bay City Western 53

Dane Coleman scored 16 points to lead Davison (2-1). Teon Armstrong added 13 points and Dion Brown Jr. scored nine to go with 10 rebounds. Bay City Western is 2-1.

Waterford Kettering 64, Fenton 52

Waterford Kettering won for the first time in three games this season. Fenton fell to 1-1.

Flushing 40, Midland Dow 29

Makhi McCombs scored 14 points to lead Flushing, which raised its record to 2-0. Dow fell to 1-3.

Frankenmuth 67, Flint 33

Ben Reinert led Frankenmuth (2-0) with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Riley Roe and Cole Jankowski added 13 points apiece. Flint fell to 0-2.

Goodrich 69, Lapeer 58

Tyson Davis scored 25 points, Evan Williams had 18 and Aidan Rubio chipped in 15 for Goodrich, which improved to 2-0. Lapeer (0-2) was led by Brendan Pillar with 19 points, Cole Bennett with 15 and Owen Hebberd with 11.

Grand Blanc 79, Midland 46

R.J. Taylor led Grand Blanc (3-0) with 15 points, Ty Rodgers added 13, Shamus Thomas chipped in 11 and Bryce O’Mara had nine. Midland fell to 1-2.

Girls

Davison 45, Bay City Western 36

Jasmine Hadley led Davison with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Olivia Dirkse was the Cardinals’ leading scorer with 16 points. Davison improved to 2-1. Western is 1-2.

Byron 69, Okemos 35

Sarah Marvin had 29 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists for Byron (3-0). Makenna Clement also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Makayla Clement had 18 points and seven steals. Okemos was playing its season opener.

Grand Blanc 46, Midland 41

Grand Blanc (3-0) outscored Midland 21-10 in the fourth quarter after trailing 31-25 through three periods. Olivia Carpenter led Midland (2-1) with 12 points. Anna Tuck added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Midland Dow 76, Flushing 55

Brooklyn Grissom led Flushing with eight points. Imani League grabbed 10 rebounds for the Raiders, Alex Long had eight and Keeli Lindstrom handed out four assists. Dow (3-0) was 16-for-30 from 3-point range. Flushing fell to 1-2.

New Lothrop 57, Fowlerville 43

Brooke Wenzlick led New Lothrop with 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Alexis Miller added 18 points and Mikayla Lienau had 10 rebounds. The Hornets are 3-0.

Fenton 61, Swartz Creek 19

Korryn Smith scored 15 points to go with eight steals and seven assists for Fenton (1-0). Kaleigh Shaker added 11 points for the Tigers, who scored the game’s first 20 points. Brooklyn Turner led Swartz Creek (0-1) with nine points.

Standish-Sterling 67, Goodrich 38

Emily Bescoe scored 12 points to lead Goodrich, which fell to 1-1. Standish-Sterling is 3-0.

HOCKEY

Powers Catholic 3, Saline 0

Mason Czarnecki, Trey Carlock and Tyler Lawrence scored for the Chargers (3-0). Nick Kurtiak made 16 saves for his first career shutout. In an 8-0 victory over Okemos, Lawrence and Jacques Lavrack both scored a pair of goals for Powers (2-0). Also scoring for the Chargers were Cooper Gerhardt, Trey Carlock, Gunnar Birmingham and Brenden Tarpening. Gerhardt’s goal was the first of his career and Peyton Lenger made 13 saves for his first career shutout.

Grand Blanc 7, Tawas 5

Rylee Edmonds and Trey Peterson recorded hat tricks for Grand Blanc (1-0). Ryan Groleau also scored for the Bobcat.
