Another year, another early playoff exit.
A season and series that began with high expectations ended just like last season for the Dallas Mavericks. Only this time, Dallas squandered a two-game lead to extend its playoff drought.
Despite a 46 point effort from Luka Doncic, the Los Angeles Clippers created separation in the second half to take Game 7 of the opening round, 126-111. Three Clippers scored 20-plus points, including Kawhi Leonard with a team-high 28. Seven Clippers scored in double digits, compared to just five for the Mavericks.
Here is how social media reacted to the Mavericks’ elimination:
Luka Doncic and Damian Lillard: tied in 2021 All-Star fan voting and for being the NBA stars most in need of major roster help.

As much credit as the big names will get...
Reggie Jackson did the damn thing for the Clippers this series.

Luka and Dame could really use some better teammates. Oh, um, wait a minute ...
— Colin Cowherd (@ColinCowherd) June 6, 2021
Dame Luka
š¤holy sh*t someone help me
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) June 3, 2021
I do not think that Rick Carlisle should lose his job.
However, the reality is that the Mavericks have a franchise player and have to do everything in their power to surround him with the most talent.
Do not take Luka for granted just because he is on a rookie contract. https://t.co/pFmIzt2yEU

At 22, Luka Doncic becomes the youngest player in NBA history to average 35+ PPG in a postseason.

Thanks to all @DallasMavs fans everywhere. Your support and love for our team is amazing. We will come back even stronger next year ! #MFFL
— Mark Cuban (@mcuban) June 6, 2021
Don’t need to watch another Mavs gm, anyone that doesn’t think Luka is a Superstar, doesn’t t know basketball.PERIODT!!!!!!!! #NBAPlayoffs #MavsvsClippers.

The Mavs season is over.
The mission to provide Luka Doncic with substantially more help has to begin tomorrow morning. He is 100% ready to be a dominant postseason player.
But he can't do it all himself.
— Mike Leslie (@MikeLeslieWFAA) June 6, 2021
Just imagine Luka with Trae Young’s supporting cast.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) June 6, 2021
13 career playoff games and luka has 40+ in 5 of them. help him.
— Mavs Moneyball (@mavsmoneyball) June 6, 2021
The Dallas Mavericks series is over but I want to say Luka Doncic is a true once in a generation type player. Not just a regular superstar. He controls so much of the game. Once they get him another All-Star to play with, the league is in trouble.
— Farbod Esnaashari (@Farbod_E) June 6, 2021
Mavs been resting on that '11 title for way too long. Time to take a hard look at building a championship-level roster. https://t.co/pTbYQDjjWU

Mark Cuban needs to figure something out because this Mavs roster is BAD. Luka needs some help.

Mavericks fans therapy session.
— Rob Perez (@WorldWideWob) June 6, 2021
Let it all out.
This is a safe place.
We are gonna be watching Luka drop 40 pieces in June for the next 15 years. Mavs future is crazy bright.
— TA (@talter) June 6, 2021
Oh now all of a sudden the Mavericks roster is horrible lol? Y’all kill me bro. They need to make some upgrades but y’all weren’t talking about them being barbecue chicken when they went up 2-0. pic.twitter.com/4NTrTtheS1
— Chris Williamson (@CWilliamson44) June 6, 2021
Luka and Kawhi were both predictably great today. The Clippers supporting cast was (a lot) better. Series.
Crucial offseason coming for the Mavs. They’ve gotta get Doncic some help. Porzingis ain’t it.
— Josh Lewenberg (@JLew1050) June 6, 2021
With the Mavericks eliminated, none of the eight remaining teams have won a championship this century.
The most recent champion among those remaining in the playoff field is the 76ers, who last won in 1983.
— Sam Quinn (@SamQuinnCBS) June 6, 2021
Mavs surrounded Luka with a bunch of 3 and D guys who don’t 3 or D lol
— Eddie Gonzalez (@bansky) June 6, 2021
Streets are saying Kristaps Porzingis’ Mavericks ID card not gonna work anymore when he tries to enter the facility tomorrow. #NBAPlayoffs
— Chris Williamson (@CWilliamson44) June 6, 2021
Kawhi Leonard doing what LeBron James was unable to do this season, put his team on his shoulders down 3-2 to win playoff series, the Clippers smooth sailing past the Mavericks! #HappyDance pic.twitter.com/z89OyusjaA

The Mavericks lost to the Clippers, but what an incredible showing from Luka Doncic.
In this series, the 22-year-old averaged 35.7 points, 10.3 assists, 8.1 rebounds, 4.4 threes and 1.3 steals, while shooting 49% from the field and 40.8% from three-point range. pic.twitter.com/BgJjDP6l2s

This shit over. Good season. Get Luka help.

FINAL: Clippers 126 Mavericks 111
Mavs season is over, Luka DonÄiÄ DESPERATELY needs help and Mark Cuban better be outside Damian Lillard’s house this week like ⬇️⬇️⬇️ #MFFL pic.twitter.com/Iz02LRLrZ6

What is the Mavericks’ path to getting better? Because this supporting cast for Luka ain’t it.
— Ben Axelrod (@BenAxelrod) June 6, 2021
If the Mavericks find a way to get a quality player for the husk of porzingis, they're going to be a problem in the West.
— Raunchy Billups (@SnottieDrippen) June 6, 2021
The Clippers have a better basketball team than the Mavericks. Hopefully the Mavericks can improve their basketball team. We have Luka. That’s hot.
— Jeff Cavanaugh (@JC1053) June 6, 2021
The question Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks will have to eventually confront: is Luka as patient as Dirk?
— Tim Roberts (@21stCenturyTim) June 6, 2021
The Mavericks losing in 7 to this team is a pretty acceptable outcome. It’s just going to hit different after the route they took to get there.
