Gnarly Trombone: Some good things about 2020 - Greeley Tribune

Okay, we all know 2020 is finished. And, we’re all glad for it, of course, because it wasn’t a pleasant year.

Everybody on every social media has been talking about how bad 2020 was.

Maybe we should try something different and look back for the good things.

There were some!

I’m pretty sure!

For example:

• We got a new president. For some of you, that’s not a good thing, but after the past crazy four years, most of us knew it was time for a change.
• We were not invaded by Aliens From Outer Space! At least, if we were, our government didn’t tell us. However, I have seen some strange folks that could be from Mars and are dressed like us. Most of them are crazy car drivers.
• We learned to wash our hands very well. Before the coronavirus, we never washed our hands for 20 seconds. Of course, our hands are wrinkled a lot more, but they’re clean!
• We got “Gertie” our baby Pug, which could be the Craziest Dog on Earth. She keeps us on our toes and manages to get lots of attention for a dog about the size of a half loaf of bread.
• We had the best Wreaths Across America event of all time. When the virus made us think we’d be very short of wreaths to cover the Linn Grove Cemetery this year, we had more than we’ve ever had! Enough to cover all the veterans’ and first-responders’ graves. Way to go, people!
• Because we’re spending so much time at home, we’re able to pick up on TV shows we haven’t seen for decades. Nice to know what happened to Capt. Kangaroo.
• We learned how much fun it is to wear masks. Yeah, right. We DID learn, however, that mask-wearers (and those who keep their masks up over their noses) are the folks who care about others. If you aren’t wearing a mask, or have a no-nose mask, we all can see what a jerk you are.
• We learned how to eat at home. Whether we wanted to or not. Learned that some local restaurants can put out really good food to go. That’s a little different.
• We learned more about viruses than we ever wanted to know … or ever want to know again!
• With so little contact with real people, we learned how important those Real People are to us.
• And best thing of all about 2020…it ended two days ago.
