On Saturday, Charlotte Hornets rookie LaMelo Ball made history after becoming the youngest player ever to record a triple-double, beating the previous record set by Markelle Fultz.
Ball produced 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists off the bench to lead the Hornets to the win over the Atlanta Hawks to break the record at 19 years, 140 days. Fultz was 19 years, 317 days when he set the mark with the Philadelphia 76ers on April 11, 2018.
The third overall pick notched the achievement in the fourth quarter after hitting P.J. Washington for a shot in the paint. He did the majority of his damage in the second quarter, in which he recorded seven points and five assists to help the Hornets carry a nine-point lead into halftime.
The performance earned widespread praise around the NBA, with Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James weighing in on Instagram to congratulate Ball.
Ball has previously been close to setting the record on Saturday as he nearly pulled it off on Friday versus his brother, Lonzo, and the New Orleans Pelicans. Needless to say, the triple-double on Saturday likely won’t be his last of the season, either.
The Hornets guard has emerged as a key player this season, and arguably the top rookie to this point. After a scoreless debut, Ball has made the transition look seamless and looks to be catching a rhythm as the Hornets have now won three straight games.
