Sneaking in one more mild day ahead of some snow and colder temperatures - KSNB

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - We’ll get in another mild day ahead chillier air returning for the rest of the week. There will be more clouds than the past few days. In fact, clouds will likely thicken up as the day goes on. We’ll see high temperatures from as cool as the lower 40s northeast to the low to mid 50s in far Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas. Winds will become breezy in Central and Eastern Nebraska out of the south southeast at 10 to 20 mph. They won’t be as strong out to the west on the back side of a developing area of low pressure. There’s a small chance of light out west by late this afternoon. By this evening, the chance for moisture will pick up a bit and spread to the east. What will initially be a chance of rain will eventually mix with, then change to snow as temperatures drop. Winds will also pick up out of the northwest on the back side of the low pressure as it moves into Eastern Nebraska overnight. The chance for snow will continue in the eastern half of the area Wednesday with some rain in the southeast where it may be just warm enough. Some light snow may evening linger into Wednesday night and possibly Thursday morning near and east of Highway 281. With north northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, some blowing snow is a possibility and could cause some minor issues. By the time the snow is gone, most will end up with under an inch of new snow accumulation. In North Central and Northeast Nebraska some may pick up a little more with totals as highs as 1 to 3 inches. Temperatures on Wednesday will be cooler with highs in the mid to upper 30s for most of Central and Eastern Nebraska. Some will warm to the low to mid 40s farther west where there could be some sunshine. Along with the small chance of light snow lingering into early Thursday in Southeast Nebraska, it’ll be a mostly cloudy day. Expect chilly, but seasonable temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 30s.

A couple of very weak disturbances will come close to our area at the end of the week. The first on Friday will pass to our north, but may glance the area with some light snow. Chances would be greater in Northern Nebraska. The second will pass more over the west and southwest. Neither of these look significant, but some light accumulating snow will be possible. Much of the area will remain fairly cloudy, holding temperatures down. Highs on Friday will still mostly be in the 30s, but there may be a few 40s in the south and southwest. Highs on Saturday will again mostly be in the 30s. The chance for snow looks pretty slim for Sunday and we may start to get a little more sun. Highs will still mostly be in the 30s. More sunshine and warmer temperatures arrive for Monday with highs back into the upper 30s and low to mid 40s. We should trend a little warmer by the middle of next week.
