Dodgers top prospect Josiah Gray was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday night in Round Rock, though the exact reason hasn’t yet been revealed.
“When a starter, certainly a top prospect is scratched from a start, we’ve got to do some testing, and I don’t know if we’ve done that yet,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game.
During the Oklahoma City broadcast, play-by-play announcer Alex Freedman said he saw Gray warming up in the outfield at 5:50 p.m. CT, before the scheduled 6:05 p.m. start, but did not see anything that would indicate the reason why he was scratched.
Roberts a week and a half ago said of Gray, who is not on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, “He’s our top prospect. We think very highly of him. We’re just not there yet,” in terms of calling up him to fill in a spot start or two until Tony Gonsolin is fully stretched out. But on Tuesday night, he admitted the idea of calling up Gray had at least been discussed.
“We were talking about it potentially,” Roberts said. “But certainly we’re going to have to shelve that for a little bit.”
Player of the day
Andre Jackson in his second start of the season retired all 12 batters he faced for Double-A Tulsa, striking out five. In two starts this year, the right-hander — drafted out of the University of Utah in the 12th round in 2017 — has retired 24 of his 26 batters faced, allowing only a pair of solo home runs.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
This one was over early, with OKC allowing four runs in the first inning and four more in the third, in a blowout road loss to the Round Rock Express (Rangers). Ryan Moseley was the emergency fill in for Gray, and allowed four runs while recording five outs. Edward Cuello followed by allowing four runs and recording four outs.
Edwin Uceta followed with a solid performance in relief, striking out six in his four innings, though even he allowed two runs. Keibert Ruiz started behind the plate and had three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Round Rock won five of six games at home against OKC in the opening series, and nobody contributed more than first baseman Curtis Terry, who was the designated hitter on Tuesday. Terry singled twice and doubled in the series finale, scoring twice while driving in two. In six games, Terry was 11-for-24 with four home runs, three doubles, nine RBI, and eight runs scored, hitting a whopping .458/.500/1.083.
Things were going so bad for Oklahoma City that even their good news was muted.

Double-A Tulsa
A low-scoring game spurred by Jackson’s strong start unraveled in the eighth, with right fielder Rudy Martin hit a grand slam, giving the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals) a win over the Drillers in the series opener.
Second baseman Michael Busch homered in the top of the eighth for Tulsa for the the only run of the game. It was Busch’s third home run this season.
High-A Great Lakes
The starting middle infield proved productive in the Loons’ blowout of the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers). Shortstop and leadoff hitter Leonel Valera had four hits, including a triple, and scored twice. Second baseman Zac Ching hit a three-run home run in a five-run third inning.
Clayton Beeter, the Dodgers’ Competitive Balance Round B pick (just after the second round) last June, got the start and pitched a scoreless inning for the second time in five days. Beeter struck out one and walked one.

He was followed with eight stellar innings of relief by winning pitcher Robinson Ortiz (1⅔ innings), Jeff Belge (3⅓ frames) and Jack Little (three innings, one unearned run allowed, and a save).
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes played their first home game in 611 days on Tuesday, and got strong performances from a pair of third-day draft picks in a win over the Modesto Nuts (Mariners).
Second baseman Sam McWilliams, the Dodgers’ 19th-round pick in 2018, hit a three-run home run in the third inning, and added an RBI single later. Jacob Cantleberry, a 13th-round draftee in 2019, struck out five of his eight batters in 2⅓ scoreless innings to earn the win.
