Big 12 loses some key games in week 2 - Viva The Matadors

  1. Oklahoma- After a week 1 game that was much closer than it should’ve been, the Sooners absolutely annihilated Western Carolina and look to bring that energy into a week 3 matchup against Nebraska
  2. TCU- Survived a game this past week against a tough Pac-12 opponent in Cal and will have the week off as they get ready for a week 4 matchup against SMU
  3. Baylor- The only reason the Bears aren’t ranked at number 2 is due to neither of their opponents being at Cal’s level. Other than that this team is looking solid on offense and will open up the conference schedule this week against Kansas
  4. Kansas State- This team had a bit of a scare this past week against Southern Illinois, but with Stanford beating the USC Trojans their week 1 win looks a lot better now. They finish the non-conference schedule against a solid Nevada team who has a potential future first-round quarterback in Carson Strong.
  5. Texas Tech- The week 1 win against Houston was a solid one, but having the SFA game be as close as it was is why this team isn’t a bit higher. This team needs to find some offensive rhythm in their final non-conference game against FIU.
  6. Iowa State- If there was ever a year where the Cyclones needed to capitalize on the annual Cyhawk game, this was the year. They have much more talent offensively but fell to the Hawkeyes, so they will look to bounce back against the UNLV Rebels.
  7. Oklahoma State- This team was expected to be a lot better on the offensive end, but they have failed to score over 30 points in both of their games against teams that they should’ve handled with ease. They have their first real test of the season against the always scary Boise State Broncos.
  8. Texas- Losing to an SEC team usually isn’t something to be looked down upon. Given the recent situation with Texas looking to leave the conference to join the SEC, losing as bad as they did to an Arkansas team that is at the bottom of the SEC is a bad look for their team as a whole. They will look to get their feet back on the ground against Rice.
  9. West Virginia- After a week one loss the Mountaineers bounced back against Long Island University. They have a tough matchup this week against a Virginia Tech team that is ranked 15th in the country. Winning this game can set them up nice for the conference schedule.
  10. Kansas- Going to give credit where it’s due, the Jayhawks were up 9-7 against a ranked Coastal Carolina after the first quarter. They eventually lost 49-22, and have taken their rightful spot at the bottom of the conference. They open up conference play against Baylor and will look to keep that one close.

Key Matchups- Oklahoma State vs Boise State will be very intriguing matchup of two teams who aren’t ranked at the moment, and if the Cowboys can overcome the Broncos they have a shot to become ranked. Baylor and Kansas open up conference play in week 3 as Baylor will look to cruise by the Jayhawks. West Virginia also has a chance to upset the Hokies of Virginia Tech and get their season going back in the right direction. Oklahoma and Nebraska would be a lot more exciting if the Cornhuskers were undefeated, but lookout for them to give the Sooners a solid fight for most of the game.
