Spencer Strider to be promoted to Triple-A - Talking Chop

kmatabunga.blogspot.com

When the Atlanta Braves drafted Spencer Strider out of Clemson in the fourth round of 2020 MLB Draft, a lot of people (including us) were a bit surprised. There was no questioning the arm talent whatsoever, but in a shortened draft and with Strider coming off Tommy John surgery having not thrown much at all in almost two years, there was certainly a bit of skepticism regarding the pick.

Strider not only shut those skeptics up in a hurry, but he has rewarded the Braves with an ascendant run through the minor leagues during the 2021 season. He went from unranked before the season to number six on our Braves rankings at midseason. Now, he is headed to Triple-A.

With Double-A Mississippi’s season ending with a championship last night, most of the Mississippi roster’s offseason just started. However, Strider will continue to get some innings in Triple-A Gwinnett in their bullpen according to sources in the organization. Theoretically, Strider could help the big league bullpen in the playoffs although there would be some hoops to jump through to make that happen (IL stint for someone and then they would have to petition the league). For now, though, Strider will get some reps in Gwinnett and we will see what happens.

Spencer Strider started the season in low-A with the Augusta GreenJackets and now has been promoted THREE times this season. Over the course of 21 starts and 93 innings this season, Strider has posted a 3.68 ERA with 150 strikeouts and 40 walks. If you want to read an interview I did with Spencer early this season, you can check that out right here.
