Outage continues Friday night for some cell phone customers - Fort Wayne's NBC

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) -- A large and hours-long service outage left many in The Fort and surrounding area unable to make calls, send text messages or otherwise communicate on wireless networks on Friday.

As of about 10 p.m. Friday, some customers were reporting partial service, but others were reporting no service at all, still.

The monitoring site "Down Detector" noted spikes in service problems on carriers, including T-Mobile and AT&T -- though reports on the latter seemed to be much more prevalent.

Another monitoring site, Outage Report, showed reports of problems on Sprint.

Social media sites lit up with complaints and questions from those affected. In some cases, representatives directed those posting to reach out via "direct message."

AT&T also directed some customers to a site that would check for outages in their area.

An AT&T spokesperson provided the following to ABC21's inquiries: “We are aware that some wireless customers in the Fort Wayne area may be experiencing intermittent service because of a problem in the local service provider’s network. We are in contact with them and appreciate our customers’ patience while they work to fix this.”
