SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Augustana track & field teams had a remarkable season opener with multiple first-place finishes at the Dordt Invitational on Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.

"It was a great opener for our teams," director of track & field/cross country Tracy Hellman said. "It was a great opportunity for our groups to be in a smaller meet and we had a lot of success with many individual victories and personal bests.

"The early season is all about getting reps in and it was nice to get home a little earlier, which will help our programs going into next week. Overall an outstanding opener for much of our group."

In total, the Vikings had 13 first-place finishes and six marks within Augustana's all-time list to go along with freshman Kaja Salemsonsen's school record in the triple jump.

Salemsonsen broke the school record in the triple jump on her third attempt, with a leap of 39-06.50.

Following Salemsonsen, Augustana had second and third place finishes in the triple jump in Kaly Banks (39-01.25) and Samantha Sundby (36-05).

Banks' mark also surpassed the previous school record, moving her to No. 2 on the all-time list.
