Appearing for Triple-A Syracuse for the first time during his rehab assignment on Thursday, Jacob deGrom completed four innings, throwing 42 pitches. It was his third rehab start overall, with the first two coming with Single-A St. Lucie.
On Thursday, deGrom hit 100 mph three times, according to the Syracuse broadcast. He allowed one unearned run, two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. DeGrom mostly used his fastball in the first inning before utilizing a slider that looked especially sharp.
DeGrom’s second rehab start was on July 8 and came with Single-A St. Lucie. That day, he tallied 36 pitches.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner's 2021 season was cut short due to forearm and elbow injuries, with his injury spell lengthened this season due to a stress reaction in his scapula before Opening Day. DeGrom, 34, hasn't started a regular-season MLB game since July 7, 2021.
