STARTING TO FEEL A LITTLE BIT COLDER OUT THERE. I WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO THE THE WATER TEMPERATURE, THOUGH, BECAUSE THAT IS STILL RUNNING AROUND 50 DEGREES, WHICH CERTAINLY ISN’T WARM, BUT RELATIVELY WARM COMPARED TO THE COLDER AIR MASS. THAT’S COMING ON IN. AND THIS TIME OF YEAR THAT CAN PRODUCE SOME OCEAN EFFECT SNOWS. AND WE THINK WE’RE GOING TO GET INTO THAT TONIGHT, INTO THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY. AND WITH THE WIND TURNING MORE TO THE NORTH AND NORTHEAST, THAT’LL MAKE NOT ONLY EASTERNMOST, MASSACHUSETTS, BUT IN PARTICULAR HERE, PARTS OF THE SOUTH SHORE A LITTLE BIT MORE VULNERABLE FOR SOME OCEAN ENHANCED SNOW BANDS AS WE GET INTO TOMORROW. IT’S GOING TO GET COLDER. AND THAT COLDER AIR RIGHT NOW IS SITTING UP NEAR THE CANADIAN BORDER. SEE HOW THE TEMPERATURES ARE STILL ONLY IN THE 20S. IT’S STILL AROUND 50 DOWN TOWARD D.C. THAT’S THE AIR MASS THAT WE HAD IN PLACE YESTERDAY. BUT THIS COLD FRONT CAME THROUGH EARLY THIS MORNING AND IT DID TURN OUR WINDS AROUND MORE TO THE NORTH NORTHWEST. SO WHAT’S GOING TO TURN OUR WINDS AROUND MORE TO THE NORTH NORTHEAST IS THIS DISTURBANCE COMING THROUGH OHIO RIGHT NOW AS IT HITS THE COASTLINE, IT’S GOING TO DEVELOP INTO A LARGER STORM THAT THEN SITS OFFSHORE HERE AND GIVES US MORE OF THAT NORTH NORTHEASTERLY WIND TOMORROW. AND THAT’S WHEN I THINK TOMORROW MORNING INTO ABOUT MIDDAY, WE MAY SEE ONE OF THOSE OCEAN EFFECT SNOW BANDS SET UP RIGHT NOW WITH THAT NORTH NORTHWEST EARLY WIND. LOOK, WE’RE GETTING SOME OCEAN EFFECT RAIN SHOWERS DOWN HERE ON THE CAPE AND IT’S CERTAINLY WARM ENOUGH FOR THAT HERE ON THE MID CAPE. WE’RE SEEING A FEW SPOTTY SHOWERS. TEMPERATURES RUNNING IN THE 30S RIGHT NOW, CLOSE TO ABOUT 40 DEGREES. BOSTON SITTING AT 37 DEGREES. AND AS YOU GO NORTH OF TOWN, MID TO UPPER 30S, ABOUT THE BEST WE’RE DOING. AND WITH THE CLOUD COVER THAT IS OUT THERE, TEMPERATURES WILL CHANGE VERY LITTLE THROUGH THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON. SO BUNDLE UP AS YOU’RE HEADING OUT. NOTICE THE WINDS ARE LIGHT, NOT MUCH HAPPENING THIS EVENING, BUT OVERNIGHT NIGHT, THAT’S WHEN WE’RE GOING TO START TO SEE A FEW SNOW SHOWERS WORK ON IN. SO TAKE A LOOK ON FUTURECAST HERE. CAN’T RULE OUT A STRAY FLURRY. FIVE, 6:00 THIS EVENING. BUT REALLY, IT’S IN THE OVERNIGHT HOURS THAT WE’RE GOING TO START TO SEE MORE BANDS OF THOSE OCEAN EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS DEVELOP NEAR THE COASTLINE AND OVER THE INTERIOR. 1 OR 2 FLURRIES POSSIBLE, BUT REALLY THE FOCUS IS GOING TO BE TOMORROW MORNING, ESPECIALLY THROUGH ABOUT MID TO LATE MORNING. THIS IS 11:00 OR SO, THAT WE MIGHT FIND A MORE NARROW, KIND OF FOCUSED BAND OF SNOW SHOWER SETTING UP HERE ON THE SOUTH SHORE, EXTENDING DOWN TOWARD THE SOUTH COAST. SO THIS IS THE AREA, THAT ROUTE THREE CORRIDOR THAT MAY GET A LITTLE BIT SLICK TOMORROW IF YOU GET INTO ONE OF THESE PERSISTENT SNOW BANDS. BUT YOU CAN SEE DURING THE AFTERNOON, THEY START TO PULL AWAY AND WE SHOULD DRY THINGS OUT IN THE AFTERNOON HOURS TOMORROW. SO IT’S NOT A BIG EVENT, BUT PATCHY COATINGS TO UNDER AN INCH OF SNOW POSSIBLE FOR A LOT OF EASTERNMOST MASSACHUSETTS. BUT HERE ON THE SOUTH SHORE FROM SCITUATE AND MARSHFIELD DOWN TO PLYMOUTH, INLAND AND AS YOU GO TOWARD BROCKTON TAUNTON TO LAKEVILLE, THAT IS WHERE WE COULD SEE ONE TO PERHAPS EVEN TWO INCHES OF SNOW THROUGH ABOUT MIDDAY TOMORROW. SO THERE’LL BE SOME SNOW SHOWERS AROUND TONIGHT. TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S AND TOMORROW, EVEN IN BOSTON, FIRST THING IN THE MORNING, FEW FESTIVE FLAKES IN THE AIR. AND THEN WE WILL START TO SEE THOSE WIND DOWN IN THE AFTERNOON WITH SOME PERHAPS BREAKS OF SUN DEVELOPING. BUT LOOK AT THESE TEMPERATURES STUCK IN THE 30S TOMORROW. THESE ARE THE HIGHS NOT ONLY IN THE MID 30S. TOMORROW AND THAT COLDER AIR IS GOING TO STAY WITH US AS THAT STORM PULLS AWAY. IT’S A QUIETER, BRIGHTER DAY ON THURSDAY. BUT WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THE WIND, LOOK HOW IT’S GOING TO FEEL FOR FIRST THING THURSDAY MORNING. WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS AND TEENS AND THEY WILL GET NO HIGHER THAN THE 20S IN THE AFTERNOON. SO IT IS A COLDER END TO THE WEEK HERE FOR SURE AS WE GO FROM WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. BUT THEN A FRIDAY AFTERNOON INTO SATURDAY, THE TEMPERATURES START MODERATING AGAIN. SO AS WE WARM IT UP HERE INTO THE 50S, WE’RE GOING TO BE WATCHING THE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY TIME PERIOD AS A STORM TRACKS TO OUR WEST. AND IT IS GOING TO BE LOADED WITH MOISTURE AND COULD HAVE SOME STRONG WIND ASSOCIATED WITH IT AS WELL. SUNDAY NIGHT INTO FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING, A WIND DRIVEN SOAKING RAIN THAT THEN MOVES OUT AND IT WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A SHOT OF SOME CHILLIER AIR. BUT LOOK AT THESE TEMPERATURES GOING INTO THE WEEKEND. 50S COULD EVEN BE NEAR 60 DEGREES WITH THA

A storm passing well south of New England and high pressure to the northwest will work in tandem to bring winds from the northeast. At the same time, a chilly air mass will be in place. These ingredients set the stage for southern New England's version of lake-effect snow – we call it "ocean-effect snow."
