Columbus Clippers 0, Altoona Curve 1 (Game 2)

Game 1 Box Score · Game 2 Box Score · Clippers move to 51-55

Game one of the double-header was the Steven Kwan show. Kwan went 2-2 with a home run, two walks and three runs scored to lead the Clippers to victory. Since being promoted to Triple-A, Kwan has batted .591 with a 1.640 OPS.

Gabrial Arias also had a monster game, going 2-3 with two doubles and a walk, knocking in four runs overall. Recently-promoted Bryan Lavastida continues to hit at every level, going 2-4 with a three-run bomb as well.

Andruw Monasterio also went 2-3 with a double.

In game two, the Clippers were shutout 1-0, spoiling a strong bullpen game as Robert Broom, Anthony Gose, Danny Young and Jordan Stephen combined to allow just one run on four hits.

The lone Clipper to reach base safely was .... you guessed it .... Kwan, who went 1-2 with a walk.

Akron RubberDucks 2, Altoona Curve 7

Box Score · RubberDucks fall to 67-40

The top of Akron’s order struggled in this one and the lineup wasn’t able to get much going over nine innings.

Victor Nova was the lone RubberDuck to manage a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a double and a sacrifice bunt. Ike Freeman and Clark Scolamiero also both reached base twice, going 1-3 with a walk each.

On the pitching side of the equation, this was a bullpen game and only two of the six pitchers put up 0s during their outings. Jake Miednik and Manuel Alvarez kept Altoona scoreless in 1.1 innings apiece.

Lake County Captains 1, South Bend Cubs 0

Box Score · Captains improve to 58-50

Pitching was the key to this victory, as Lake County won despite only three hits and one run scored.

Aaron Bracho played hero on offense, launching a solo home run to record the only run scored in the game.

Lake County’s starting pitcher Mason Hickman tied his best outing of the season with 6.0 shutout one-hit innings and nine strikeouts with just two walks.

Lynchburg Hillcats 10, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2

Box Score · Hillcats improve to 53-55

It was a hit party in Lynchburg and nearly every Hillcat was invited.

Jorge Burgos led the way, going 3-5 with a triple and a stolen base. Petey Halpin also reached base safely three times, going 2-5 with a walk and a stolen base.

Another massive performer was Andres Melendes, who was perfect at the plate, going 2-2 with a double and three walks, while Milan Tolentino went 2-5.

Alexfri Planez only had one hit, but it was a big one as he absolutely crushed a two-run homer.

Starting pitcher Josh Wolf was solid, allowing two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings while striking out two and walking two to earn the win. Randy Labaut and Jacob Forrester both added 2.0 innings of scoreless relief apiece to seal the win.

All short season squads had the day off.
