After some frost, temperatures to soar into the upper 70s - CT Post

After some very cold temperatures and some showers, temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 70s Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service says high pressure will shift off shore this morning as a developing frontal system begins to approach the region from the west.

“Much of the day today is expected to remain dry, although clouds will increase through the afternoon as a warm front begins to approach the area,” the NWS says.

“Shower chances will increase tonight as the warm front lifts north. With plenty of cloud cover, overnight lows will remain much warmer than the previous few nights, only falling into the 50s. The warm front will lift north of the area Friday morning, resulting in a brief break in the rain for parts of the area, before a cold front crosses the region Friday afternoon into Friday evening.”

Ahead of the cold front, temperatures will soar into the 80s across much of New York City metro area.

Farther east, temperatures will generally remain in the 70s, although a few locations along the immediate coastline will likely remain in the 60s.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely as the front crosses the area Friday afternoon into Friday evening. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, with strong gusty winds. Showers then taper off late Friday night as the cold front pushes south of Long Island.
