Evacuation levels lowered in some areas of Twenty-Five Mile Fire - NCWLIFE News

Evacuation levels were lowered this morning in many of the areas near the Twenty-Five Mile Fire on the south side of Lake Chelan.

The “get out now” notices have been in place for some areas since shortly after the fire broke out Aug. 15.

The fire, which has burned just over 11,000 acres, was expected to be 16 percent contained by tonight.

At a virtual community meeting Tuesday night, operations trainee Caleb Finch said there is not an imminent threat to areas still under Level 3 evacuation notices but the threat remains.

“We want to make sure everybody understands there’s still a concern out here but we don’t have that imminent threat of fire impacting or threatening these homes and these valleys at risk,” Finch said.

Incident Commander Alan Sinclair said the number of fires in the West this year has strained firefighting resources.

Sinclair heads Southwest Area Incident Management Team 1, a team that is deployed to fight big or complex firefighters.

“We’re having to share resources nationally, which isn’t an ideal situation,” Sinclair said. “We have the staffing we need to maintain command and control of the incident but we can’t have a surge of resources coming in and quickly get the work done.”
