The New York Yankees prospect made his second start with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Wednesday, giving up one run on five hits in three innings, striking out five and walking one. He threw 65 pitches, 41 of which were strikes, in the 10-3 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.

One week ago, Schmidt made his Triple-A debut and the right-hander went 3.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits. His overall stats at Scranton include an impressive 2.84 ERA.

The 25-year-old Schmidt is working to return from a common flexor tendon strain in his right forearm that sidelined him at the start of spring training

Two weeks ago, the Yankees returned Schmidt from his rehab assignment, reinstated him from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A.

Schmidt is the Yankees’ No. 5 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Center fielder prospect Estevan Florial batted leadoff Wednesday, and went 1-for-6 with one RBI, one run scored and a pair of strikeouts. He’s hitting .209 for the RailRiders.
